Who owns the Chandlery?

The Chandlery is entirely owned by Seafish (Falklands) Ltd, which is in turn solely owned by over 250 Falkland Islanders.  This means that every penny of profit made by the Chandlery stays in the Falklands.

Are the prices at the Chandlery really that competitive?

Absolutely!  So much so, in fact, that our competitors use us as their benchmark

How is this possible?

Not only do we ensure that are prices are always lower than our competitors', our policy is that all our prices be fair and reasonable the whole year round.  Similarly, we also strive to source our products from the most competitive suppliers.

Aren't most of your products from Chile?  I wouldn't recognise anything

No.  Most of our stock is imported from the UK.  The majority of products that are imported from Chile are dairy products, which are not practical to be imported from the UK due to their limited shelf-life.  In addition, some speciality products may be imported from elsewhere simply because they are not available in the UK.

Why do you have some items in stock once but never again?

Until recently, we have always imported our products via dedicated UK-based exporters with set product lines.  This has meant in the past that goods have been discontinued by these exporters and we have not been able to source them elsewhere.  However, we are now working with new suppliers that are able to source practically any product available in the UK and we welcome suggestions from customers for new product lines.

Why do some products run out within the space of a week?

Because we order products months in advance, it's not always easy to gauge what demand will be like when a product hits the shelves - a large order from a trade customer, for example, could mean that we run out of any given product at a moment's notice.  The volume of any given product that we can order is also limited by its best-before date, as we have to be careful that we do not sell items that are out of date.  Additionally, our imports are often consolidated into containers to minimise shipping costs, which sometimes means that part of an order arrives in one shipment and the rest in another.

Do you do discounts on bulk orders?

Yes, we do 10% discount on all items bought by the case. This does not apply to clothing or items already on special offer.

Do you deliver to MPA?

Unfortunately not, but if you have a limited amount of time in Stanley you can send your order to us in advance and we are more than happy to put it together for you (or someone you know who is visiting Stanley) to pick up.

How does the Chargecard work? Do I have to pay to get one?

There is no charge to obtain a chargecard.  After applying and being issued with a chargecard, purchases can be placed on the account up to the credit limit (usually £500).  Customers are then sent a monthly statement, which must be paid within 30 days of the last day of the month in which the purchases were made.  Any balance outstanding thereafter is subject to interest.

For example, if one customer bought £100 worth of purchases in May, at the start of June they would receive a statement with that outstanding balance.  If the customer pays the £100 before or on the last day of June, no interest is charged.  If, however, the £100 is not paid until July, that amount is subject to interest. If that amount (or part of that amount) is still unpaid in August, then interest is charged once again.

Visit our chargecard page for information on how to apply

How much is the interest?

Interest is charged at 2 per cent on all outstanding balance older than 30 days.  Camp residents and businesses are not charged any interest unless the outstanding balance becomes exceptionally old.

Can I have a lower or higher credit limit?

Most personal accounts are usually opened with a £500 credit limit, but if you would prefer to have it lowered all you need do is let us know when you open your account.  Those customers requiring a higher credit limit can also get in touch with us and discuss their needs.

Do I have to spend a minimum amount per month?

No, you can spend as little or as much as you like, provided you don't exceed your credit limit

What happens if I exceed my credit limit?

Your account is will be placed on hold and no purchases will be able to be put on that account until some or all of the outstanding amount is paid off and the balance is once again below your credit limit

Do I have to keep the account for a minimum amount of time?  What if I want to close it?

If you open an account, you are not bound to keep it for any period of time, therefore you can close it whenever you like.  All you need to do is settle your balance and inform us in writing.  See our contact page for address, fax or email details
